Be Sun Smart!
In the light of the increasingly hot weather we are experiencing during the summer terms we felt it an important part of our commitment to healthy schools to develop a policy to protect staff and pupils.

Healthy Lunches
The sense of nurturing and wellbeing is ever present in all aspects of the school life – including school dinners ! For the last year, the school has undertaken a unique initiative with our Partnership Secondary school – Icknield Community College, and Q Tass Ltd.
Q-tass was formed by husband and wife team Jonathan and Karen Bradley and the aim is to help organizations to improve their catering service in terms of fresh, nutritious food, uptake and subsequently cost. The initiative at Watlington has helped both Icknield and the Primary School to dramatically improve their school catering, and support the Healthy Schools Initiative. Since changing to a healthy offering – uptake has increased by over 150% The children are rightly proud of this aspect of their school – and are keen to show visitors the great food on offer.
The meals are £2 per day (if a child has dinners 5 days a week) or £2.10 per day if they just have odd days. (We ask that a minimum of 2 meals a week are taken.) Our aim is to increase uptake further so that two thirds of the school are eating a healthy hot meal at lunchtime. We are always looking for ways of improving the service, and consequently, uptake – and would encourage parents and children to provide feedback on the service via the website communication portals. |
