Evacuation Day

On January 26th 1944, the Foxes, Badgers and Hares joined up and went back in time to World War 1. We dressed up as evacuees and learnt about what they went through, how they coped and what they felt like.
We went through to Mrs Green’s class and watched a presentation and a few clips about evacuation. We learnt about what it meant to be an evacuee. When we watched the clips we saw the kids were anxious, emotional, but quite exited. The parents of the children were emotional as well but they are happy because they know their children are going to be save.
Not only children were evacuated, the elderly, disabled, blind, women and sometimes men if they were not fighting in the war were also evacuated.
After lunch Mr Doman brought in a gas mask and some of us got to hold it. It was really heavy.
We also made identifications and name tags, with a code on the back. Then Mr Doman told us where we were going to be evacuated to, and we went into the hall. To our surprise our parents came and picked their children.
So that is what we did on Evacuation Day.

Class Representative Network
The PTA are looking for a few more people to join the new initiative ‘Class Representative Network’. We need a parent for each of these classes: Year 1 (Newts), Year 3 (Badgers), Year 6 (Lapwings and Red Kites). The role will support playground networking and communication for events. It’s a low maintenance role which involves occasionally passing on information. I am also interested in having a group of parents create a document for parents who are new to the school. This document would go deeper than a prospectus and inform new parents of the specifics or idiosyncrasies about school which they might usually find out piecemeal in conversation with established parents.

Art Show
The 20th Annual Art Show was an amazing success. A huge thank you to everyone who helped set up and run the exhibition last weekend. Thanks also to everyone who visited; joined in with the children’s workshops; decorated the “Artis-Tree” and bought coffee and cake. All your support is greatly appreciated and helped us to raise over £2000 for the school. There may be more to come from commissions taken at the show also.
Thank you from the Art Committee and myself.

Home School Link Worker

Do you know about Jane Bellars? She is the partnership Home School Link Worker. She is able to support parents in many ways. Usually, the school can refer parents to Jane with their consent but you can also contact her confidentially, if you feel you need parent support on 07719 735573.
