Comenius

International Links / Comenius

In January we focused on teaching and learning and sent DVDs of how we teach maths to our German and Polish partner schools.

In February  3 teachers and 2 children visited Poland.
Aly Frost visited schools in Toronto, Canada as part of Senior Teacher scheme looking at Literacy.

In March we made maps of various Comenius locations.

3 teachers and 2 children made the final visit to Germany in May completing our report and creating an exhibition of work.

We are working towards the International Schools Mark and are currently gathering evidence of all the work we have completed which has an international dimension.  For example, current KS2 children with be linking Victorians project by looking at innovators and inventors from other countries and the younger children will be looking at similarities and differences in very cold climates.

During Arts Week each class took one picture featured in the Tate Gallery and studied artists from different parts of the world.

One very exciting aspect of our work is that children in our school have invited their relatives throughout the world to do a survey about life in their school.  We have sent letters to children in places like Zimbabwe and Spain enabling us to see the difference in cultures across different continents.

Finally, our school was a pilot school for work done by the Global Ed Team and we feature as a case study in a teaching resource pack called Global Dimensions.
