Community

Watlington Primary School - Bright FutureOur school is a community school and we try hard to ensure that we are at the centre of the community. Read more about specific events that we have been or are currently involved in at the bottom of this page.

We welcome parents and members of the community into school to help with all aspects of learning and recognise the need to tap into the enormous potential of local people. Every October we have an open morning so that everyone can see us at work.

During curriculum focus weeks we invite special guests to speak. At a recent assembly we were entertained by a footballer from Oxford United and the health visitor came to talk to children during health and fitness week. In Life Skills week we had a talk about "Togs for Dogs," and raised over £100 for the charity. Every November we remember those who died in war and the children learn about the effect of war by listening and talking to war veterans.  We entertain the elderly by visiting Watlington Care Home at Christmas and inviting people from the local Age Concern group to see plays.

We want our children to appreciate the role they play as citizens of a global community. We have established international links with schools in Japan, Poland and Germany. Our pupils sponsor two children in Africa through Action Aid.

Our aim is to support local events in any way we can and make sure our school is at the heart of a thriving local community.
